Sisters in Action has been officially KISSED BY RAIN!!!

Kissed by Rain designer Rhean King blessed us with some creative and stylish raindrops when she came to teach us how to make trendy headbands. Of course we used pink fabric to go along with out camp colors, and Rhean brought along tons of sparkly beads and rhinestones to decorate and personalize our designs. The girls learned greatly about the fashion industry and SIA girls Rodelyn and Theressa were able to express their interest in modeling.

Ain't no party like a SLUMBER PARTY!!!!

Girl talk, junk food, chick flicks, makeup, and nail polish.....just a few of the wonderful things that make an AWESOME slumber party!!! Sisters in Action got together on a Friday night for a slumber party and we had a blast!

SIA does Carnival at the Brooklyn Museum

Sisters in Action started the day off with yoga, exercise, and nutritious smoothies as we took part in a health fair. The girls learned ways to take care of their bodies as well as fruits and vegetables that will make them healthier and cure certain illnesses.
However, Target First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum was our destination on Saturday, August 1st. We watched costume presentations from 2009 carnival mas camps and the girls voted on their favorite one. The girls listened to the pulsating rhythms of steel bands and the latest 2009 soca releases. The highlight of the day was the Caribbean spoken word performances in the garden. Aspiring author and poet Renisha was especially please by this aspect of the day!

We are officially prepared for Labor Day 2009!!!!

SIA & spoken word artist Latasha Alcindor

What a day of laughter and rhymes it was with Latasha Alcindor. This Wesleyan University senior visited the lovely young ladies of Sisters in Action to bring her poetic rhymes, funky style, and bubbly personality. She spoke of her multi-ethnic background, as well as her experience in the fashion and entertainment industry. Latasha is currently working at the blog Music Addicts Only and is independently working on a screenplay.
